Training Spotlight: Pregnancy Emergencies with the St. Al’s Team

This past week, our crews had the opportunity to take part in specialized training on pregnancy emergencies, led by the wonderful team from St. Alphonsus. Their instructors brought a wealth of knowledge, real-world experience, and a passion for helping EMS providers feel confident in handling some of the most high-stakes calls we may encounter.

Pregnancy-related emergencies can present unique challenges. From complications in labor and delivery to maternal medical conditions, every situation requires quick thinking, teamwork, and strong assessment skills. The St. Al’s team walked us through critical topics such as:

  • Recognizing and managing obstetric emergencies

  • Supporting both mother and baby during delivery

  • Hands-on practice with equipment and scenarios

  • Effective communication with patients and family during high-stress calls

What stood out most was the practical, scenario-based approach. Rather than just reviewing protocols, the instructors created realistic situations that tested our decision-making and teamwork in the field. This type of training is invaluable—it bridges the gap between classroom learning and the unpredictable reality of emergency calls.

We are grateful to St. Al’s for sharing their time, expertise, and commitment to improving prehospital care. Trainings like this not only sharpen our skills but also strengthen the connection between EMS and our hospital partners.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, you’re helping ensure that our community receives the best possible care, no matter the situation.
